In market news, US stock futures are flat today as investors re-evaluate the Federal Reserve’s potential rate cuts ahead of upcoming inflation data and corporate earnings. Following last week’s strong September jobs report, many have backed off predictions of another 50-basis point cut in November. Instead, markets now expect a more modest quarter-point reduction, or possibly no rate change at all.

Treasury yields have climbed, with the 10-year note breaking above 4% for the first time in two months. Fed President John Williams stated that the Fed’s policy is well-positioned to achieve a “soft landing,” balancing economic strength with lowering inflation. Williams emphasized that the Fed will remain flexible in its approach through the end of 2024.

Alphabet’s (NASDAQ

) Google faces setbacks after a U.S. judge ordered significant changes to its Android operating system, allowing competitors to offer their own app marketplaces and payment options. This antitrust ruling follows a victory by Epic Games and will block Google from restricting third-party app platforms for the next three years. Alphabet’s shares fell 2.5% on the news.

In Asia, Chinese markets surged after the Golden Week holiday, but gains were capped as Beijing did not announce any new fiscal stimulus measures. Meanwhile, oil prices slipped after strong gains, with concerns over Middle Eastern tensions and muted reactions to China’s economic outlook.
