Markets in Focus: Post-Holiday Trading

U.S. stock index futures are slightly lower this morning following a strong performance in the shortened session before Christmas. Trading volumes are expected to remain thin for the rest of the week.

S&P 500 Futures: Down 0.45% at 6,011.10
Nasdaq 100 Futures: Down 0.5% at 21,687.50
Dow Jones Futures: Down 0.4% at 43,075.80

Tech Leads the Way

The so-called “Magnificent 7” tech giants delivered big gains earlier this week:

Tesla (TSLA) jumped over 7%.
Apple (AAPL) gained 1.2%.
Amazon (AMZN), Meta (META), and Alphabet (GOOGL) all climbed.

Chip stocks also rallied as the Biden administration launched a new trade investigation into Chinese-made chips, potentially leading to tariffs:

Broadcom (AVGO) jumped 3%, and Intel (INTC) gained 1%.

Wall Street Recovers After Fed-Induced Slump

Major indexes bounced back after last week’s Fed meeting dampened hopes for aggressive rate cuts in 2025.

PCE inflation data came in softer than expected, easing concerns and supporting a rebound.
The S&P 500, Nasdaq Composite, and Dow Jones all regained most of the ground lost last week, with Tuesday’s session closing on a high note.

Oil Prices Climb on Chinese Stimulus

Oil prices rose this morning, building on Tuesday’s 1% gains, thanks to reports of fresh Chinese stimulus measuresaimed at reviving its economy.

WTI Crude: Up 0.5% to $70.01 per barrel
Brent Crude: Up 0.5% to $73.97 per barrel

China is set to issue a record-breaking 3 trillion yuan ($411 billion) in special treasury bonds next year. With China’s economy as the largest global oil importer, these measures are fueling bullish sentiment in the energy market.

Additionally, U.S. crude inventories fell by 3.2 million barrels last week, according to API data, adding further support to oil prices.
